Understanding Financial Trauma
Financial trauma is deep psychological distress from severe or prolonged money related issues. Many individuals may not initially identify with financial trauma, as the associated behaviours can be subtle and confusing. If you are experiencing distress when it comes to reviewing bills or checking your bank balance, if you find yourself being excluded from financial decisions, if you are experiencing anguish regarding loans or debts, if you are suffering limitations on your access to financial resources, you are probably going through financial trauma.

Understanding Financial Abuse
Financial abuse, also referred to as economic abuse, involves an agonising pattern of behaviour where an individual utilises money, finances or financial decisions to exert control, impose restrictions, and torment another person. Financial abuse is one of the main causes of financial trauma. It is important to recognise that financial abuse is overwhelming, debilitating, and causes extreme agony. Understanding and confronting the associated emotions such as shame, guilt, fear or self-doubt are vital for moving forward.

Clarifying and understanding what’s been happening to you without blame or confusion whether it is financial trauma or financial abuse or both.
